A double helical gear incorporates two opposite-orientated helical gears of the same helix angle together to annihilate the two opposing thrust forces.

For many years such double helical gears, as an example of components with geometrical interference, have been a unique challenge in finishing bags. While military low lot size applications might have been the main focus in the past, there is now a current boost in demand for double helical gears in planetary reduction gearboxes for engines in civil aviation. Increasing requirements for weight reduction and fuel saving lead to decreasing sizes of design forms.

1. Raw material preparation
42CrMo,C45 ZG310-570, or other ally steel will be used as a raw material according to the customer’s requirements through the forging or casting. Ultrasonic inspection will ensure the material is free of pores, holes, and cracks. Measuring the size of the forging,   calculating the processing allowance, and accurately estimating the cutting times in the turning process.

3. Heat
Heat treatment will be done after rough turning to improve the physical property of the material.
4. Tooth Hobbing or Milling
The tooth will be hobbed on a gear hobbing machine or milled on a CNC gantry milling and drilling machine according to the tooth type and module. The other dimension is processed to the finished size according to the drawing.

5. Surface Quenching
Surface quenching or carbonization will be done after machining to improve the hardness and abrasive resistance of the tooth. After the surface quenching, we will inspect the hardness of the tooth.

7. Drilling
After grinding on the vertical drilling lathe, lifting and side holes will be made.

8. Final Inspection
We have a perfect and strict quality management system and an experienced inspector to control the product quality. The gear will be inspected strictly according to the drawing.
